WHY MAUSTECH MUST STAY, MAPOLY MUST NOT DIE! - Omo Alhaja (Wasiu Tejuoso)

ASUP, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta Chapter is aware of the teeming propaganda about her purported unwillingness towards the establishment of Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology (MAUSTECH) of which we have on various media and platform debunked the unfounded rumor.

As a group of eggheads with unequalled passion for quality education in the state, our aspirations have always, and shall always be to encourage the government and all sincere stakeholders toward the provision and sustenance of quality education in the State, especially as Ogun State is in the fore front of quality education in Nigeria. This is a legacy we cannot but hold in high esteem.

Why MAUSTECH must stay:
1. That the proposal for the upgrade of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic to a degree awarding institution which eventually culminated into the Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology was ours, and as far as we are concerned, still passionately ours and a welcome idea that must be sustained;
2. That Abeokuta being the state capital is long overdue for a State University.
3. That this will serve, in the  long run as additional source of employment to all and sundry in the state thereby alleviating poverty among the citizenry;
4. That the establishment of MAUSTECH will further afford the indigenes the opportunity of admission slots in the present competitive environment for admission, thus, protecting their interests and increasing literacy level in the state;
5. That the establishment of MAUSTECH stimulating healthy competition, will further challenge and strengthen the existing sister institutions in the state, thus, bringing out the best in them;
6. That because education is a right to the citizens and a responsibility of the government, MAUSTECH will further boost the image of the State Government in the area of catering for the educational need of the people in the state;

Why MAPOLY must not die:
1. That MAPOLY as the model Polytechnic in Nigeria (NBTE, 2017) is not only the pride of the state but also an enduring legacy of the people of Ogun State and the people of  Abeokuta on particular;
2. That MAPOLY remains the most consistent and enduring institution in the state in the last five years – no strike, no fight, and no issue. Ours is a consistent learning and unequalled human and structural development; courtesy of unalloyed commitment of members of staff and our IGR ingenuity which earned us the state government’s recognition so much that, His Excellency himself, once requested sister institutions to come and under-study the secret behind the MAPOLY success;
3. That the Polytechnic in its 36years of existence has shunned out the best of graduates in different areas of academic and professional interests – Mass Communication, Architecture, Accountancy, Applied Sciences to mention but a few. The records are there. Should we allow these legacies go into extinction?
4. That without doubt, MAPOLY is the biggest industry in the capital city of Ogun State which over the years, has contributed and is still contributing greatly to the socio-economic development of Ogun State and majorly Abeokuta, the capital city. Its eventual death will no doubt, spell doom for the residents of the state capital especially in economic terms;
5. That MAPOLY remains the only approved Polytechnic in the state with full accreditation of all her courses as recorded by the last NBTE Accreditation on sight.
Should we allow these legacies go into extinction?
It is only a month ago that MAPOLY got almost all her programmes accredited to last the next five years.
